What made us start BubbaDesk?

Our Story

Like many mothers, childcare wasn’t something I thought much about during pregnancy – or even after welcoming my first baby, Charles. I was focused on what felt most urgent: the pivotal stages of pregnancy, birth, and the newborn bubble. I figured I’d tackle the childcare question later.

I explored a few daycare options but felt an emotional pull toward having a nanny. The idea of leaving my baby in a traditional daycare all day went against every maternal instinct I had. Yet, the cost of a nanny (often over $320 a day with no rebates or tax deductions) just wasn’t viable.

Layered on top of that was postnatal anxiety, which made the idea of handing my baby over to a traditional setting feel overwhelming. And like many new parents navigating the shift to work-from-home and hybrid models, I found myself asking: why isn’t there a better way?

So, I built one.

BubbaDesk was born from a need to stay close, to remain emotionally and physically connected to my baby, while still being able to work. Our coworking and childcare model gives parents the best of both worlds: trusted, professional care for your little one and the ability to stay nearby for feeds, cuddles, and those little moments that mean everything.

BubbaDesk isn’t just about convenience – it’s about supporting a strong foundation of attachment, bonding, and security during the crucial first 1,000 days of a child’s life. It’s a new model for modern parenting.

This year, I also launched Wombee, the app for Mothers Groups. Wombee connects mums with local mums (into groups, not 1:1), making it easy to find, form, and stay connected to your Mothers Group. It’s the digital extension of the real-life support networks that many of us rely on throughout pregnancy, motherhood, and beyond.

Together, BubbaDesk and Wombee are part of a bigger mission: to build solutions that support mothers in a way that reflects real needs – not outdated systems.

I know there will come a time for preschool and growing independence. But for now, BubbaDesk allows me (and many others) to be fully present in our children’s early years without stepping away from meaningful work. And that changes everything.
