Finding work life balance with coworking and onsite childcare
Caringbah BubbaDesk member Alison has been using our coworking space with onsite childcare since its launch. We spoke with her to learn more about her experience balancing work and parenting with her young baby, Isaac.
What do you do for work, and where are you in your parenting journey?
I own a business, Grow Getters Group, which is a e-commerce custom apparel business, which we have owned for 17 years.
What initially drew you to BubbaDesk, and how has it changed your experience balancing work and childcare?
I had my son, Isaac, in April 2023. I loved every second of being with him, but knew my business needed me too. Having the “best of both Worlds” where I can work in blocks, then go and spend time with Isaac, meant I could do both really well.
How has having onsite daycare at BubbaDesk impacted your productivity compared to traditional coworking spaces or working from home?
Absolutely. The team at BD Caringbah are phenomenal! They made me feel completely at ease and Isaac has loved his Thursdays at BD! Knowing he is happy, but that I can see him at any time, has meant I can also be really present for my business…then quickly switch into mum-mode again and back!
How would you describe your overall experience with BubbaDesk as both a coworking space and a childcare?
An absolute game changer. It is the best ‘business’ experience I have ever had. The work spaces are beautiful, clean, inviting…and lovely people! The childcare is awesome, amazing toys, lovely space and sleep rooms. Couldn’t fault one thing.
Can you share any unique or memorable experiences you’ve had while using BubbaDesk’s services?
I love the mornings when I get in with Isaac and I sit with him whilst he settles in and starts to play. Love the morning chats with Viviana and Julie before I go up to get some work done. It makes the whole experience feel ‘homely’ and warm.
What do you appreciate most about the flexibility and convenience that BubbaDesk offers to working parents?
The flexibility is amazing. Whilst we were on a permanent day, the ability to book casual days really helped me too for when I just needed extra time for certain projects.
Can you describe the emotional comfort of knowing your baby is just steps away while you work?
Huge! Absolutely huge. Knowing Isaac is right there, I can spend time with him whilst still getting work done. Priceless.
